The days passed too quickly for my liking, mainly because I still hadn’t settled on a decision. Each hour that crept by taunted me until the morning of Christmas Eve arrived.

Rooting around in the closet, I moved several boxes to the side until I found the one I might need. The top shelf was mine, so there would be no reason for Edana to look for any of her stuff up there. But for extra caution, I hid the small black box inside another larger one, underneath a pile of old tax documents.

Popping the top, I stared at the two-carat, oval solitaire diamond set in a platinum, diamond-crusted band. I didn’t know anything about rings, but I had a reference to go on from years ago. My memory was shit sometimes, but for some reason, I recalled this tidbit of information.

There was a time, when we were much younger, before everything happened with the club, and to her, that all she talked about was getting married. She’d show me pictures of rings she wanted, and even dragged me to a few jewelers to point them out in person.

Back then I was the one who rejected the concept of marriage. I was too young. Too wild. Wanted to live in the now and didn’t want to think about the future.

How I wished to go back to my younger self and beat the hell out of him. But I couldn’t. All I could do now was hope for the best. To keep trying, no matter how uncomfortable the thought of another rejection might feel.

I’d just tucked the ring box into the inner pocket of my cut when Edana appeared in the doorway, wrapped in a bath towel, her hair still wet from her shower. A droplet of water trickled over her collarbone before traveling farther down to meet the top of the white cotton shielding her body.

I needed a distraction from my incessant thoughts, and before I realized I’d taken a single step, I crushed the small distance between us and stood in front of her. Without a single syllable uttered, I unwrapped her towel and let it drop to the floor before backing her against the wall.

“I have to get ready.” She licked her lips, her eyes traveling from mine to my mouth and back again.

“And you will. After I’m done with you.”

“What are you going to do to me?” The hitch in her voice was sexy as fuck.

“Everything,” I responded, my hand disappearing between her legs. “I’m gonna rip you apart and put you back together.”

The tiniest crease formed between her brows. I’d never said anything like that before, and quite honestly, if she asked me to explain what I meant, I’d be at a loss for words. But even though I couldn’t clarify it, I felt it. Deep in my soul.

I wanted to destroy her body with mine.

I wanted to bring her to the brink, then pull her back and do it all over again. I wanted her to beg me to stop before pleading with me for more.
